CTTS was pretty terrible live. You would think because of their raw format and intense songs they would be good, but no, they were boring and dry. The vocals were bad, and so was the sound mixing in the venue, but the instruments were all dead on, but still, no intensity.

This is an incredible venture into the darker side of music, while maintaining the energy necessary to constitute a great recording. From the very beginning the force behind this musical machine is driving hard into the center of your being and ripping your guts out. All while being angry and derived from frustrated minds, the musical element is melodic and beautiful. Tim Abondello’s lyrics are intelligent and poetic, all while dark and touching the deeper parts of the soul. The words go well with the vibe of the music, the creators of which consist of 2 great guitar players, one bassist who knows his way around the virginia music scene (currently also in mannequin and formerly in page ninety-nine) and to top it off, one incredible drummer. The sound is much clearer and forceful than their Streaks of Terror LP. The end of this new EP even contains some hidden cover songs, the likes of minor threat and the cramps. This is a wonderful new release by the guys of CRESTFALLEN.

“Ignorance is bliss no wise woman’s failed to mention and surely some koan suggests ‘neglect leads to perfection’but the more I turn my face from the crowd the more I feel my backs’ increasingly compelled for the sake of escape, to turn a knife on itself,a knife of relief, from all the petty insight” The music is chaotic the lyrics pure poetry. This album is easily the greatest CD I’ve ever listened to. As The Roots Undo brought together the rage and emotion of punk and grindcore with the poetic beauty of screamo. The production is not without its imperfections but the songwriting and feel of each song is captured almost to perfection. What’s really genius about As The Roots Undo, though, is how perfectly the music and energy flow with the poetry recited by the vocalists. “Kill The Switch” is by far the best song on the CD with nine and a half minutes of ridiculously dynamic songwriting. The song takes a lot of transitions but all are done naturally rather than being forced. I highly recommend that any music guru who loves to hear something new done check out As The Roots Undo. It will be a long time before someone releases an album that will even come close to this one in pureness and complexity.
